Incoming Cerebral Overdrive - Cerebral Heart album cover

What is it going to be this time? Symphonic Power Metal that will bust my balls with meaningless neoclassical guitar showoffs, Gothic Metal with female vocals that will try to sound like LACUNA COIL but will be closer to Britney Spears or underground Black Metal with shitty production and uninspired compositions? No offense, but these three kinds are the main export of the Italian Metal scene. Only a few bands have managed to attract my attention (hail to NECRODEATH).

The Italian metallers INCOMING CEREBRAL OVERDRIVE managed to surprise me by not playing anything of the aforementioned styles of music. These guys have actually managed to a really nice work in their very first full-length effort. Not only they have created a nice package that is away from the classic CD cases with amateur cover artwork, but they have also worked with some great people that made INCOMING CEREBRAL OVERDRIVE's album sound better than they had expected.

When people like Kurt Ballou and Alan Douches work on your sound, the result is guaranteed. I saw some people describing this band as Metalcore, but INCOMING CEREBRAL OVERDRIVE have only a few connections with this shitty genre that keeps releasing uninspired and boring music (with only a few exceptions). The Italians prefer to be in the insane part of the Core music, featuring elements that resemble to Crust and Post Hardcore bands like CONVERGE, UNSANE, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, EVERY TIME I DIE and some GOJIRA.

The heavy and frenzy guitar work of Maurizio and Stefano meets the schizophrenic rhythm section that the other two madmen (Alessio and Filippo) create and all of them form the perfect mental asylum for a singer like Samuele Storai. You really have to hear this man screaming while the rest of the band is on a totally out of this world break with no regular tempo or a beatdown moment where they challenge you to bang your fucking head. Would you expect an unknown Italian band throwing straight in your face some MASTODON style Sludgy riffs? Oh, and for those that will try to categorize their music, the band has already answered this question... Spaghetticore!

To tell you the truth, I didn't expect to find such a good band in the specific Metal scene in Italy. My neighbor country has used us in classic styles of Metal and INCOMING CEREBRAL OVERDRIVE are here to show that the Mediterranean climate can be a good influence for a band to rise up and present an album that would be everywhere if it had the tag Nuclear Blast or Century Media on it.
