INCINERATE is a Brutal Death Metal band originally based out of Minnesota, United States. Formed in 1998, the band has previously released two full-length albums. "Eradicating Terrestial Species" is the band's third release, and contains nine tracks. The two minute opener, "The Prophecy," leads off the album. It sounds like people being murdered by the arrival of an alien spacecraft, amidst a cold and dark thunderstorm. But I wasn't well prepared for what would follow. "Inhuman Inoculation" roars in next, complete with speed picked riffs, powerful blast beat drumming and monotone Death vocals that are completely guttural, low in range and incomprehensible. There is definitely an element of technicality to the music as well, as several passages vary in their meter, and the space in time to make the changes is impossibly short. In "The Arrival," we have another instrumental passage that sounds like the world is on fire and we are hearing what it is like to witness the end of all things. "From Distant Worlds" hits you hard with speedy chord progressions and grunting Death vocals that seem to come from deep in the ground. Once again I have to marvel at the stamina and timing drummer Darren Cesca displays here. Some of the notes are so fast it is hard to fathom and he hits them with the accuracy of a seasoned sniper.

"Unable to Ascend" is the album's longest track, at just over five minutes. It quickly settles into utter madness and lays waste to pretty much everything around. There is a little vocal variation in what I would say is loosely based on a chorus, where the range of the screams are much higher. The track ends in a slower breakdown of sorts, where spoken word is both frightening and foretelling. In "Cultivation of Human Offspring," I am picturing the aliens prodding and preparing human study and sacrifice for an unknown gain. You can literally feel the pain being inflicted and there will be no happy ending to this tale. Closing the album is perhaps the most fitting title to describe what you are listening to here, "Fucking the Rotting Nun." Well, that escalated quickly. Forcing a man to have sex with a dead nun with a gun in his mouth is about as extreme as you can go. Taken as a whole, the thematic elements of the album work very well in unison with the songs presented. It is easy to invoke imagery of death, destruction, mutilation and the end of all existence, as told through the super intense vocal passages and ultra-tight instrumentation. Like an endless colony of deadly army ants on the march, and consuming everything in their path, "Eradicating Terrestrial Species" will devourer your very soul.
