Allow me to introduce you to this fine band called INALLSENSES. Hailing from Italy, the band was formed in 1996, in Caserta, Campania, and have been active ever since; which is impressive, because 2016 marks their 20th anniversary. All of the members were on the recording of this EP, except for Ruggero. INALLSENSES have 2 demos, 2 full lengths and one EP so far - "Checkmate" being their newest and latest work. The EP consists of 4 songs and was released on March 31st 2016, for My Kingdom Music.
Trying to describe the sound of the band won't be easy, but I'll give it a shot. Imagine a great combination of Death Metal and Thrash Metal riffs mixed with some great groovy vocals, all in the vein of bands like LAMB OF GOD and TESTAMENT. The EP begins with the song "Expectation", starting with a chill intro riff before leading us to heavier things. You can feel the grooves going through your veins with the literal adrenaline of the first song; which is heavy and consists of classic Thrash and Groove riffs, understandable clean vocals and harsh growls. The song clocks in at 4:35 minutes. I really liked how the vocals were mixed so that both styles are used equally; neither the growls nor the "cleans" dominate this song, it's an equal and fine mix of brutality and beautiful melodies. There is also an interesting thing towards the end of the song where there is a little "South-American" part where you can hear some traditional instruments.
The 2'nd song, "The Anthem Of Revolution" begins with furiously brutal, growling vocals, but if you focus, you can still make out what the vocalist is trying to say. This one features a mix of 3 genres; I could make out some Death Metal growling, clean Metalcore-based vocals, and classic Southern Groove/Thrash based vocals and riffing, and of course some brutal drumming - let's not leave that out either. The "cleans" remind you a lot of the newer LAMB OF GOD works (where they also tried to implement some clean vocals), but these are way more original and are totally on point. There is also an epic thrash solo too that comes in about a minute before the end, as well as some shouting and silent vocals. You would think that the solo is going to go on until the end, but you'd be wrong, for the "cleans" kick in again, and I must say, they are really enjoyable if you like this style.
Then suddenly, things stop, before the 3'rd song, ''New Automata'' slowly fades in. The drums were going wild, the riffs are merciless, and more vocals were going on, but this time I could perfectly make out the backing vocals too! The whole thing lasted for a few seconds before the angry vocals kicked in, with some epic Groove breakdowns to follow them; the kind that simply make you want to kick and destroy something. The band describes themselves as "A journey into the world of pure adrenaline", which, I must say, is absolutely on-point. The third song consists mostly of silent vocals and more groove! You just can't get enough of it and you will definitely wish this EP was longer. Another solo, way faster than the previous one, kind of melodic, short, and the growl vocals dominate for a while again before the cleans take over everything until the very end; and what an epic end this is! The last, and title track, is the real deal! The growls are sharper and way more brutal than anywhere on the album. I have a feeling that if they had more than 4 songs, they would be even better.
I must say that 6 years without records - 6 years since the last full-length album entitled "Hysterical Psychosis" - this EP is definitely worth listening to, whether you've heard of the band or not! It is such an incredible EP, with great production, and I loved it from the start. Now I absolutely want more.
