IN ARCHIVES is a perfect example of the music business in 2011. Record sales are as low as you can imagine, YouTube is an excellent way to promote but also a way for people to listen and download your music without paying because who cares about music quality when you're listening to it on your Smartphone on the way to work right?
IN ARCHIVES is a Hardcore / Modern Metal band from the U.K. and they did the smartest move that a small independent band can do today. They made a great quality EP, four songs + a little intro just to get you ready for song groove tough angry Metalcore. The production of the EP is great and the songs are a great "promotion card" for the band to acquire gigs and spread the word out there.
In my opinion the songs are good, yet not utterly great. I think that when the guys will receive a record proposal (they are good enough for it) they should work with a producer on the songs and arrangements, because the songs on the EP may be impressive but when you would listen the whole thing together, meaning the songs one after another, it may sound a little too monotonic.
Overall I liked the effort of these guys. I definitely would buy this after a good gig of theirs (If I would ever see one). This is a good example for other bands to see that sometimes it's better to start slow and not jump straight to a whole album with 5 good songs and 5 songs that are just there to fill voids.
