Satan's Eclipse

Coming to us from two different states, New York and Missouri is the Black/Death Metal band IMPURE. This is their very first full length album entitled "Satan's Eclipse". The band is comprised of two members Horned Father of Desecreation who is on drums and vocals and Satyrannical Lord of Assault on guitars. For a freshman album this is pretty long sitting at twelve songs. That's pretty impressive. So let's jump in and see what "Satan's Eclipse" is all about shall we?
We begin with "Death Secretion" which is a bold and heavy hitting song as soon as the synth is done. It takes a little over a minute for the song to kick in completely. The band definitely is rooted in the old school sound of both Black and Death Metal. All in all the song isn't bad, but it's nothing to shake a stick at. "Engaged in Morbid Ecstacy" is up next and it's what I would consider your basic Death and Black Metal Standard. It's not bad at all but honestly I feel that it falls quite short of being extraordinary.
"Demonic Urge" is basically the last song but sped up a little. So far this has been pretty monotonous. I think if they took the echo effect off of the vocals it might be a little better. And I also think this is more Thrash and Death Metal than it is Black. "Sapphic Initiation" is more down tempo but it's more of the same. As far as the instruments go they have promise, but they definitely need to refine what they are doing. Maybe make it a little more crisp.
"Sorceress Maelstrom" is almost a Sludge Death Metal song. So far I think this is the best song on the album. I only wish they had brought the double kicker to the forefront. I think that was the best part of the song. It did however stay away from sounding sludgy briefly at points. "Danse of Slaughtered Cherubs" is the halfway point of the album. It starts off with what sounds like a heavy rainfall that leads into a very dark and ominous riff. Eventually it picks up the speed but it goes in and out. I think the thing that stands out to me the most is the chugging guitar work.
Honestly I am going to stop my review here because the album proceeds in the same direction throughout. There is nothing terrible about this album, but nothing I can say is outstanding either. I think fans of Low Fi and Old School Death Metal would truly enjoy this and would be better to judge it for themselves.
