Making their grand entrance into the Thrash / Death Metal scene is Sweden's IMPLODE with their release titled "Under A New Sun". Though only a four track EP, it contains approximately thirteen minutes of supersonic, aggressive Thrash, laced with lyrics that are mainly themed around the rise and fall of humanity's ego, and powered by an extremely talented set of musicians.
Intricate and technical guitar riffs and solos are delivered throughout by not just one, but two guitars. Christoffer Knutsson and Victor Lindquist Moreau are an excellent duo with lightning fast guitar licks that are quite impressive. Bass is played with all the ferocity of a predator by Victor Danling. Keeping things at a toxic speed is Henrik Axelsson on drums, which never seems to miss a single breakneck beat. Rounding it all are fierce, unrepentant vocals by Johan Ejerblom.
If you listen closely, you can hear tiny remnants of the influences of PANTERA and THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER. Don't let that deter you though. IMPLODE incorporates their own sound complete with newer more modern touches added to older styled thrash. This is a very interesting combination of the old meets the new where death/ thrash metal is concerned. It has all the speed, the aggression, plus some new tweaks without trailing into what might at times seem predictable.
"Under A New Sun" is an adrenaline packed EP, giving the listener just enough of a taste of IMPLODE to leave them wanting for more. After hearing these four tracks, I know I am already anxious to see what will follow. Hopefully Thrash Metal fans can look forward to a full length album in the near future from these guys.
