IMPLODE is a five piece Technical Death/Thrash Metal act from Sweden, being in the scene since 2007. "Aeon Clockwork" is the second chapter off their new album "I Of Everything", each chapter following a specific theme, eventually to catch up with each other and create a final concept album. The theme of "Aeon Clockwork" (as you might infer from the title of the EP) is infinity, or to be more specific - the mindblowing infinity of the universe against the insignificance of the existence and effect of mankind on the universe.

"Aeon Clockwork" shows a very brutal, tech-death/thrash tone, along with a very modern hardcore tone -similar to bands like Psycroptic or Revocation. The songs on "Aeon Clockwork" are very polished on the outside, but raw - maybe too raw - on the inside. The songs seem underdeveloped and a bit too stale, over worked to produce a very brutal product, but lack much substance to hook me and pull me in - resulting in a product that feels too harsh to listen without getting a bit bored from lack of emotion. Maybe you can blame it on the format of chapters, that don't allow the songs to be expanded to their full potential and explore their concept. You might also blame it on band trying to abide to a certain formula - polishing and perfecting carefully and with talented sweeps - yet in the process forgetting to let the product absorb some individual characteristics to differ it from the general formula and letting it become something new and different.

Although produced with care, forming a very solid piece - this EP feels too stale to sweep me off my feet - maybe with all the other chapters the image will change and the album will find an individualistic tone to differ it from the herd. "Aeon Clockwork" is a definitely GOOD foolproof take on tech Thrash - that definitely will make some people love them for, but will also push away many other listeners that want to find something different than standard brutality. Don't expect your heart to skip a beat.
