Imperial Savagery - Lashing The Feral Swine album cover

The pangs of sinister malignity wear into the soul, through waltz and amble the insidious visages of macabre music are unmistakable and remarkably compelling; IMPERIAL SAVAGERY crafts their own interpretation of malevolence which is made clear and distinct beyond a shadow of incredulity through their newest release, "Lashing The Feral Swine."

"Churchgate Proclamation" starts the album and to detract a bit for a moment the song begins with an iconic scream which is known as "Female Screaming Ter TE036701" and was created for the sound effects library "The Edge Edition Volume 1," though not a sample I was expecting to hear, it definitely serves in helping to set the tone of the track; the song quickly separates itself from the opening atmosphere through a torrent of sound coming from the entirety of the band. "Frozen Ritual Of Shame" has a stop-go feel to its rhythmic progressions for the duration of the song which achieves a very odd and effective sense of tension and dread.

"Kiloton Crucifix Detonation" slows down a bit in comparison to the rest of the tracks, instead focusing on the jarring melodies over sheer speed and aggression. "Inverting The Province Of Scripture" wrests the listener's attention with constant shifts in speed and theme. The instruments sound quite contained and well balanced in reference to one another, there exists few spots where one has importance over the others so there is a greater sense of unity within the album. The guitars are dirty, gritty, and a bit removed providing both room for the bass and a sort of trembling sense; the bass might not be loud but is eerily distinct creating this unsettling tone, best heard in "Appalled In Disgraced Ruin;" the drums have this great and deafening calamitous sound to them which comes from the performance aspect, such that they sound as if near every cymbal strike and tom hit was done as hard as humanly possible; the vocals are grizzly and cathartic giving the listener a sense of dread and depravity all in the same breath.

This album achieves its goal in creating a sense of concern and crudeness, though it is clear that the tracks were crafted with a good deal of compositional skills behind them, though they begin to lack distinction towards the end of the album. Where this album suffers is in its length, coming in at just under 28 minutes it feels more as an extended EP than it does a full length album. With a bit more diversity in the song construction and more songs on the track listing this would have been a phenomenal album, with that being said IMPERIAL SAVAGERY stick to their guns and create a music sensation of great dissimilarity to other Death Metal acts.
