Impaled Nazarene - Road To The Octagon album cover

This is one of those hard reviews. You know, one of those that deal with a band that you adore and can't find the right words to describe them and their music. IMPALED NAZARENE has been my guilty pleasure from the very first time I listened to the song "I Am The Killer Of Trolls" from the band's best of compilation "Decade Of Decadence", which was released in 2000 (yeah, kind of young I guess). Since then, the Finnish death squad has been raping my ears with its blasphemous chainsaw creations and I can't hide that I enjoy it!

IMPALED NAZARENE have been active as fuck for 20 whole years, and their 20th anniversary finds them releasing their brand new album "Road To The Octagon" through the Osmose Productions (one of the few bands that tries to save the once glorious name of this French label). So, enough with the crap, let's get down to business.

If you already know these Finnish psychos, then you already know what to expect, and you are definitely aware of the fact that IMPALED NAZARENE has never fallen below the "good" standard, they haven't even released a mediocre album! "Road To The Octagon" is no exception, since the thirteen short tracks featured in here are a rocking & rolling Black Metal holocaust! If you are looking for slow or melodic elements, then you are surely looking in the wrong place, since the karmageddon warriors won't show any mercy. With the tempo being faster than the speed of the passes between the players of Barcelona FC, the quartet proves that it still knows how to rock and party hard! Mika Luttinen this classic psychotic cult figure with his blackened screams, while the guitars remind you that it's good to be Punk! What about the rhythm section? Well, while other guys would just try to keep up, ArcBasstard and Repe sound like savage beasts, building a huge solid sound wall! The production is also really good, adding the appropriate retro aesthetic to IMPALED NAZARENE's crystal clear sound.

What else to say here? I think I will just go on and on writing down useless things, when the only thing that really matters is that the Finnish act is one of the few that has kept its sound pure and unadulterated since its inception. I can't wait to see them again during their forthcoming show here in Greece! Suomi Finland perkeleeeeeeeeee!!!
