Immortal Guardian - Psychosomatic album cover

Knowing that IMMORTAL GUARDIAN pulled their inspiration for this album from the events of 2020 only adds to the power that it implements! Strong and powerful lyrics, melodic tones that are powered by the heaviness of the guitar and drums in the background. PSYCHOSOMATIC brings the power through in a very wide range of musical potential, hiding intricate musical talent throughout. Definitely an album that is needed if melodic power is what you are after. If IMMORTAL GUARDIAN isn't already in your playlist, I think that they should be.

"Psychosomatic" is the leading song and it wears the name of the album and the value of the intro song well! We are brought in by quite the intriguing sound, symphonic with a twist I would say, breaking into a powerful and inviting metal sound. The lyrics are powerful, "make your mind your enemy", just a simple example that holds so much power in at least what I perceive to be some of the driving forces in the events of last year. Fear spread far and wide in the faces of a sickness, which does hold its own power, but what powers were manipulated if any? Lyricall awareness is something that is a driving force in the album for me as every song packs a deeper perspective.

That deeper perspective is also nicely accompanied by heavy drums, absolutely shredded guitar, and vocals to match. In the song "Lockdown" this heaviness is front and center. Fast paced and powerful this song will have you trying to keep up with the guitar! Driving the music directly into you with the absolute harmonic thrashing of the instruments going on. This song holds just as much power in the music and it's compositions as it does the lyrics! Bringing in some heavy points on what lockdowns do to a society. Compelling us deeper into the hell of a year 2020 was for some people, but in a peacefully heavy way!

"Clocks" starts off with a harmonious melodic intro and is something that has a calming effect throughout. Music and lyrics melded together is such a way that they just flow elegantly yet urgently. Even though the content of the song can make you feel deeply, the music holds you in such a way that you know you have the power to get through it. Followed by "Self Isolation" which is a soft piece of music, almost to hold you in the realization of how deep the events of the world have gotten, but in such a calming way. IMMORTAL GUARDIAN is able to pull off the transitions from heavy and powerful to soft and peaceful in a masterful way.

Melody and power, two things displayed in a smashing way throughout this album! If you are looking to get lost in different levels of metal then this album is for you! Pick it up when it releases February 12th!
