Heaven in Hiding
Imminence
If you're looking for a new band to become obsessed with, check out Swedish metalcore act IMMINENCE's newest album "Heaven in Hiding." The album begins in an anticipatory manner with its DEFTONES-esque intro building up into a perfect metalcore song "Ghost."
"Can you tell my ghost that he doesn't belong here anymore? Find another host 'cause this is my soul" is an amazing chorus. There's definitely some quality lyric writing throughout the album to go along with the amazing musicianship.
I absolutely love that this band incorporates the violin into their music. It fits the metalcore genre so perfectly and it's definitely a tool to help them stand out from the rest. The violin parts in "Temptation" are so beautiful. This song also has a really badass breakdown. Eddie Berg is a total beast on vocals and violin and I really dig his screams.
The band isn't afraid to stray from the screaming and try something new. The listener is introduced to clean singing with "Surrender," followed by "Chasing Shadows," which is a brilliant song. It's with this song you start to really see the overall themes behind this album as a whole. Everything is dark and brooding, but we're still holding out hope.
This album reminds me a lot of the "There is a Hell Believe Me I've Seen It. There is a Heaven Let's Keep It a Secret" era of BRING ME THE HORIZON. I was a huge fan of that album, too. The song that really brought me to this thought was "Moth to a Flame."
I noticed that things started getting a little more toned down and weren't as high-energy later in the album. A lot more clean singing was used. While none of the songs on the album are bad, I definitely prefer the more high-energy ones. "این نیز بگذرد" is especially slow and melancholic, but it's very beautiful. You might forget you're listening to a metalcore album once you get to "∞" since it's just a violin interlude that leads into the final song "Heaven in Hiding," which ends the album with the somber tone it adopted as it went.
There is so much emotion in this album from the lyrics, to the music, to the vocals. I can imagine this one hitting home for so many listeners and bringing them out of the darkness, letting them see that little glimmer of hope. Is there anything better than great music that can evoke such real emotions? Some might think it's depressing, but it's important to know others experience heavy emotions and to have them put it into words.
