In Vain

IMMENSION are an English band that plays the simplest, most regular Metal there is. "In Vain" is their first full-length album after two Eps, and there's nothing unique about it. The thing I felt while listening to the first song, that is also the theme song of the album, is that this probably is the most banal band I've ever listened to. The lyrics are ordinary and the music is simple, but it is all OK. It does get better throughout the album, but somethings remains the same as I've heard a million times before.
The lack of a Bass player in this band is felt, and harshly. There's nothing to put the entire thing together, although both of the guitars are not too bad and the drums are doing their work. It seems like in most times they are trying to show they can double-bass with the drums or play really fast on the guitars. The combination of the two with the vocals makes it sound like almost some kind of Metal-Core band that has lost both high and low grunts altogether. In other parts, there's something Thrashy in the music that makes me think of METALLICA in the early days such as in the song "In The Dead Of Winter".
"Love Never Dies" is the sad song of this album, and as a sad ballad it works perfectly. This song, without referring the lyrics that are obviously meant to be kitschy, was close to being the best song of the album. Even though close, in the fast part, when the vocals finally became loud and aggressive like they should, the drums out casted them and the song slightly lost its power. On the other hand, "The Enemy Within" is a great song for you Thrash lovers that simply works. All in all, this album is not bad. In the same breath I will say, it is also not very special in my opinion. Another good album, like many others, and though being good skills and production wise, it is nothing more than that.
