Imbroglio - The Struggle In Pursuit album cover

IMBROGLIO do add a new depth to an otherwise stale genre of Metal, a blend of mostly Doom and Deathcore genres amalgamated in to a form of experimental ambience.
I was in two minds over this release, as I began listening it seemed apparent that I wasn't going to enjoy them, but towards the end my opinion had been swayed.

The use of stereotypical core (read: bore) sounds are as enjoyable as ever, please note the sarcasm. In moderation and well structured, clunky breakdowns and sweep picks can go the distance but when amassing them too frequently combined with a lack of solid structure the appeal for the song quickly diminishes.

I personally enjoy the experimental sound and rhythms but on a few tracks the outcome turns in to clichéd breakdowns, witnessed by a variety of mediocre bands. The post production effects are used appropriately which adds to the atmosphere of the music ergo makes for a highly enjoyable listen.

"Approaching" is a decent track that can be classified within the Doom genre, although the main aspect of the song is a rather droning experience, it still manages to keep my attention. The beginning is slightly less favorable but becomes enjoyable afterwards. "Desolation" is a personal favorite due to the connection I received upon listening to it. Another great slice of gloomy heaviness which chugs away, again having that drone feeling of hostility but is far more pleasing to ones ears than certain areas of the music industry.

Conclusively, IMBROGLIO are able to write crushing songs which will open up your mind and cause ones insanity to flow free. This EP will leave you wanting more from these Americans, so hopefully they will be able to continuously deliver their own brand of experimental metal.
