Illet - The Pattern Of Life album cover

ILLET are a breath of fresh air with their brand new sound and will be loved by anyone who loves bands like SLIPKNOT, THE DEFILED and DEVILDRIVER. The Turkish group are all heavily talented in their own way and shows through with their album ''The Pattern Of Life'' which is bound to get them noticed soon enough.

Album opener ''Killing S.G'' is packed with electronics and guitars which is entertaining for anyone who loves Nu Metal. Ozgur Monkul's vocals aren't exactly perfect in the verses but quickly makes up for it in the chorus's followed by distorted guitars. Kudret Diplen's solo at 2.41 is easily the best part of the song giving it a Hard Rock twist. Cagri Halacoglu's drumming is the intro to ''A Brand New Day'' which is certainly impressive. Monkul's vocals are much more improved with the aggressive lyrics being shouted at you who are complimented by everyone else's participation within the band. Mix together THE DEFILED with CHIMAIRA and you get ''A Brand New Day''.

''Holy Betrayal'' is one of the most dramatic and best songs of the album with Monkul's vocal range hitting both the highs and lows of the spectrum. Mostly consisting of blast beats and electronics it is amazing how it can still work into a great song, Diplen's solo's really bring out the tracks potential to make it even greater than it was. You could easily be deceived into thinking ''The Pattern'' was going to be a gentle acoustic track before it breaks into heavy guitars. Progressive but brutal with high vocals it is a combination which no one could be sure if it could work but it is what ILLET best. Diplen's guitar solo yet again brings out the tracks potential with his part at 2.03 which is complimented by Halacoglu's Metalcore drumming skills. ''What For?'' is one of the weaker songs of the album but it's still good just not as much passion as the previous. The fifth track has everything what the other songs had: solos, blast beats, a great vocal range and much more but the lyrics let it down slightly. If you enjoy early KORN and SLIPKNOT then you are bound to enjoy it

If you want to hear a super heavy mix of NINE INCH NAILS and THE DEFILED combined into a song then ''Our Kind'' is the final product. Monkul's rough, gravel throated vocals are perfectly matched to Sertac Kaki's electronic skills. The track is aggressive, catchy and inventive which is what the album craves. Sadly the band are back with another weak song in ''The Memories Behind'' where Monkul's vocals are at the worst they could ever be sounding muffled and disastrously weak amongst distorted guitars and repetitive drum fills. Take this track out of the album and replace it with something which resembles ''Our Kind'' and the album could have been perfect but ''The Memories Behind'' is just a migraine for any music lover.

Penultimate track ''The Beast In Me'' carries on with a disappointing theme though the piano intro is nice before it breaks into heavy guitars. The guitars, electronics, bass and drums are all on their top form but yet again the vocals let the whole track down as Monkul's voice is pushed too hard for him to handle as his voice sounds strained when he tries to get high pitched. ''Cycle'' is a small improvement to the previous songs for the last track of the album but it still does not have as much passion as the first song has. Kaki's skills on the electronics really shine through with how he uses sampling which compliments the guitars on the distorted riffs.
The song is aggressive with its lyrics but it misses something which is hard to figure out.

ILLET have created a great metal core album and there's no doubt about it but it seems as if the Turkish group lacked effort with the last few tracks of the album. All members know how to work with their instruments and can work together to create some impressive lyrics but if the band created an album with how the first 5 songs sounded then it would be perfect.
