It's a well known fact that Peter Tagtgren is busy as hell; he is a well known and a very good producer, he has been active with the industrial based band PAIN and has his name in project bands like BLOODBATH, LOCK UP and THE ABYSS.
While waiting for the successor of Virus that was released in 2005 Peter thought that he could fill this time “gap by re-releasing Catch 22. This album was originally released in 2002 and had actually raised some complaints by the band's older fans “accusing Peter that he had followed the current music trends. Personally, I liked the album without being affected by these sound changes.
If you look closely you will find that this album is not like the other classic re-releases that just remastered from the original versions. Peter went deeper on this and re-recorded the vocals and the guitars; so actually we have a completely new album here and that makes it more than interesting for all the  Tagtgren fans.
The album sounds more aggressive than the original and Peter has added some finishing touches with his Death Metal vocals. Just listen to Don't Judge Me and try to avoid the grasp on your throat! The album continues with a certain dynamic that will make your neck snap! The sound production brought the guitars one step forward giving us the chance to focus on the catchy riffs. Peter screams and shouts with his trademark vocals taking the Death Metal path in songs like A Public Puppet or Turn The Page with the solid rhythm section and the headbanging repetitive almost industrial guitar riff. Of course, there are tracks with melodic twin guitar foundations like Edge OF Madness (love the keyboards here), Uncontrolled or Seeds Of The Chosen One which characterize the second HYPOCRISY era.
I am not sure that I like the re-recordings because some of the original feeling is definitely lost and in some point proves that the artist don't believe to his own work. On the other hand, the artist here is Peter Tagtgren who is at least a respectable metalhead to the Metal scene so I made an exception. Actually, I consider this version a completely new album so I don't have to be ambiguous to my own saying. The bonus material is nothing special with some live recorded songs while the Japanese edition will have a bonus track. If you are a HYPORCRISY fan or you just don't have the original Catch 22 and this re-release is a must.
