In the time we are living now, it seems that a bunch of guys wants to make time flow backwards, trying to make music in the old ways of the past. Some can do really nasty things, and they really can deceive some people as they were doing something new and outstanding (when in reality, they aren't). But there are cases when the final result is truly very good. Nothing new, but good, as the Swedish quintet HORISONT does on their album "About Time".

It's that earlier form that Heavy Metal and Hard Rock showed on their earlier beginning, with very good melodies, a good dose of weight, and that Rock'n'Roll and Blues scent that really is very good. The greater value from the quintet is just to be honest to themselves and to the public: they are not trying to remake the wheel. They're just doing the thing they like with their music, and doing it with honesty and heart. The sound quality is something that is really raw and moldy in some moments, but it seems to my ears that it's just a consequence of the tunes they use on their musical instruments, not as a wannabe of the 60s-70s. You can understand what they are playing, as the whole sonority is really organic.

Another good point: they don't try to create long songs, just being efficient and catchy songs. The whole album has only 37 minutes of duration, so it is not a boring experience. Ten songs to our ears, and their finest moments are fine and melodic atmosphere of "The Hive" (very good vocals and guitars are shown on this song filled with good tempo changes), the hooking harmonies and guitars of "Electrical", the excellent Boogie/Hard Rock feeling that fills "Without Warning" (here, bass guitar and drums are doing great, and the chorus is truly excellent), the charming tempos of "Night Line" (and very good vocals and backing vocals as well), the filthy guitar riffs with very good melodic aesthetics on "Boston Gold", the Siamese guitars duets on "Hungry Love" (these melodic solos are elegant and tender), and the introspective feeling that permeates "About Time".

Ok, they can't be the most original band in the world, but their work is really very good.
