Hombre Malo - Persistent Murmur Of Words Of Wrath album cover

In the world of Metalcore there are many entries and few winners. O'slow metal combatants Hombre Malo enter the ring with their latest seven track release "Persistent Murmur Of Words Of Wrath". It is with this fierce collective of songs the band explores the depths of evil and madness within our world that we see every day. Beginning with the depiction of a naked lynched man with vultures at the ready to pick his bones. This artwork is morose and sullen, painting a dark picture using a depiction of front and center male genitals.

Hombre Malo instigates this release with "L'étranger," laden with thick reverb guitar and bass tracks staccatos in unison with the rhythm section. The mix is guitar heavy and the reverb digs into your ears like daggers. There is an interesting audio mix within this album that could be subbed out with many stoner metal bands that is until The Muerto bursts into the tracks with vocal cord straining shrieks. Labeled as Metalcore, this band and album do well to step outside the predrawn genre lines. There is substance here that draws the listener in and emotion that extracts fears from deep within the subconscious.

"Crosses and Marching Feet" and "Vladislav" represent the real world anger within this release and topics of religion and the killing of gays around the globe. Again the substance within these tunes can be felt like nails dug deep into the skin. There is no reoccurring theme in sonic structure, and you'll surely die black and blue if you hold your breath waiting for a hook or reoccurring chorus.
"Reaching the Shore" and "Deathbed Conversion" present the diversity in vocals with spoken word and cleaner tones amongst the barrage of vicious audio attacks. You'll also find some variations in tempo between the two songs with speed increasing during the former and grinding to a slow and ominous halt in the latter.

Hombre Malo can consider themselves amongst the winners category within the genre with "Persistent Murmur Of Words Of Wrath." Once you get past the cover art there is angst and venom within the seven song epitaph showing promise for the O'slow metal quartet now and in the future.
