HELLWITCH, currently from Hollywood, Florida, is an appropriately named band from the early days of this genre. They are one of the oldest Death Metal bands in Florida, but they are still bringing you something that sounds current, not dated and best of all, it makes the evil in your heart feel full. Never boring and always coming out with their guitars blazing, this Death/Thrash cross has had a long and proud history that started all the way back in 1984, but this timeless re-release is still worth a listen to today.
The solos in "Sought to Beguile," are unique enough to stand alone in style but when we get to the next song, "Opiatic Luminance," the guitar has some competition with the drums, but again, brings some different things, in both categories. The re-release of this album from 2005, "Omnipotent Convocation," has a pretty intense vibe so far.
"Neolithic Journey" slows it down with its ominous sound, slowly taking you to the double bass of "Mysteria," where you will hear the rapid Ranieri trademark screams, complimenting all of it very nicely. He is laying out a soundtrack that is not showing any signs of slowing down, especially when you get to the beginning of the eighth song, "Final Approach," where things speed up, right when you are thinking it can't get any faster. There is a lot of up and down, it does slow down, slightly. All around, it has a nice groove, my favorite song so far.
"Infernal Death," is about to wrap it all up ear the end. It would be a great song for a horror scene in a movie. There is nothing nice about it, but the tone, Satan being the overall theme. If you like dark music with the same feeling, this will be one of your favorites. Don't skip this one.
This veteran band of over thirty years has had a lot of changes over that period of time and there was a point when they were not making music, but the technical skill of the musicians on this one are second to none, they are masters of their craft. All f the band members make their music sound easy to play, but it is crazy fast and a little different with the frantic changes. What you get is super high energy, classic old school Metal. It is something for the OG South Florida Metal heads to be proud of and for the next generations to soak in and appreciate. The godfathers of that early scene put together something special here, nineteen songs that will keep your head banging and the mosh pit moving.
