During the second half of the 90's, many bands tried to make the fusion between Black Metal and Doom Metal, what shown to be a hard thing to be done, because the results lacked balance. It means that sometimes it sounded as a Doom Death Metal band playing with satanic themes; on other moments as a Black Metal band playing with slow tempos. The mix between the two genres seemed to be impossible to be done, until someone did it (don't ask me who), and things improved. So to understand what HELL'S CORONATION is up to with "Silver Knife Mysticism" is a hard work.

Their music is based on slow tempos and long timespans, heavy and funereal (even with some choirs seeming like Gregorian chants), but the bitterness of the ambiences and crude instrumental tunes that shows the Black Metal DNA of the band. The energy that can be heard on the band is different, organic and funereal, but always with pyroclastic and oppressive ambiences. It's not simple to deal with the band's music, but as long as the listeners become used to it, their songs impose a darkened grasp to the fan. The sound engineering done by Jacek Langowski and Arkadiusz Stawicki, along the production of the band itself, made things sound rough and funereal, with that feeling of watching to a funeral procession passing by in a rainy gray day. The instrumental tunes as crude and simple, allowing their ideas to flow in a way that anyone can understand. It could be better, but's not a problem to deal with it as it is.

"Mephistophelic Baptism" can be said as a chaotic and slow maelstrom of bitter ambiences entwined with nasty screams and sad Gregorian chants. And the slow tempos used on "Under the Wings of a Mortal Aura" evade the monotony due some changes in many moments, due a monolithic approach on bass guitar and drums (what creates a solid rhythmic wall). And the sad and funereal synths-based instrumental "Summoning the Cursed Miasma of Hell" is just a closing for this release, maybe creating a link to their next release.

One can say that HELL'S CORONATION's musical work isn't perfect, and they have to mature a bit more their blend. But it doesn't mean that "Silver Knife Mysticism" isn't a good release, and it will earn the band fans of Black Metal and Doom Metal as well.
