Hailing from São Paulo, Brazil HELLLIGHT was formed in 1996 and since then has released three records, with "No God Above, No Devil Below" being their fourth. I would like to start this review by talking about the awesome cover on this album it depicts two skeletons doing poses reminiscent of each part of the title, so in the upper part of the cover where it reads No God Above the skeleton is doing the Christ on the cross with his arms outstretched while in the No Devil Below we see the skeleton doing the Baphomet pose with his right arm pointing up and his left pointing down, when I first saw this cover I was blown away, this had got to be one of coolest covers of 2013, the cover obviously symbolized in a nihilistic way the death of the of the old Christian way of thinking in this post-modern society, but unfortunately I wasn't just as enthusiastic when I heard the album...

The band plays Funeral Death / Doom Metal which is a subgenre of Doom that consists of very long songs (emphasis on the very) combined with a mixture of low vocals and clean, "normal" vocals. This band is pretty much the same as other bands out there playing the same style not bringing anything new.

If you are a fan of the Funeral Doom subgenre you will probably love this album but if you are not I would probably suggest you stay clear from this record as this will not make you change your mind about this subgenre.
