Chilean 4-set Blackened Thrash band, HELLISH, put forward their second full-length album after 2016's "Grimoire", and earlier this year they gave us the compilation: "The Offspring of Warlock". Check out Metal Temple's review of the 2015 EP: "Theurgist's Spell" by Tony Playter.

"The Night" is a chaotic start upon this album. The guitars are in a frenzy unleashed. The overall tempo is hard to work out what they are going for. The vocals are distorted in the same way that older Black Metal bands did, some see bands nowadays as doing this as pointless. The sound of the instrumental solos is good, but it loses the balance of the overall song for me.

"Scream Comes from Inside" has a strange start; its more progressive Thrash with a weird, deranged screaming and it doesn't seem to work for me. It soon changes, however, to similar, all be it a bit slower than before. The vocals, again, can not be understood, it lacks a sense of balance for the vocals, the instruments hold it together as best as they can. The song ends so far from where it begun.

"The Curse Upon Us" once again has a brief old school thrash start with only a slight death-growl; it goes on well. The vocals are less distorted, making it easier to listen to. There is less from the vocals here, allowing the instruments to take over the song, and when the vocals hit it, is a lot better than before. If the rest was like this, it would have been a lot better to listen to. The solos again seem to go their own direction instead of the songs. The bass is well placed throughout and holds the song together.

"The Walker of Shadows" is again thrusting the clearer vocals into the song, which makes it better, almost like they made the album and changed their idea of vocals halfway through. The vocals seem to go off track a little, mid-song, the guitar comes into to save the song again, but it shouldn't have to do this every time. The song is the same as what we have heard before and fails to take off, which is the whole album's issue. A lack of depth and ideas.<
