Hellfox - The Call album cover

The coincidences that happen each day are always a source of astonishment to everyone on Earth. Some months ago, I received a note for my own Blog on Brazil about an Italian band about the release of their video Single for promoting their coming album. And here we are, writing about their new album, "The Call". The band: HELLFOX.

Their way of making music can be classified as Modern Alternative Metal. It's a combination of fine melodies with extreme aggressiveness in some moments (due the presence of low grunts), with a very good approach. Such words aren't enough to depict a band that shows a set of influences that runs from AMORPHIS (due excellent and easy to assimilate melodies), IN FLAMES (from where the modern contrasts used are coming) and DARK TRANQUILLITY (the same musical unconformity and lack of links with labels is an inheritance of their work), so it's easy to like, modern and heavy at the same time, but unconventional. The sonority combines a very good clear insight (to allow the band to express their ideas) with a heavy format and something that gives a touch of a pyroclastic and modern aggressiveness. The final result is something that really fits on what the band's music needs, but it could be better.

The band is proof that women are taking their place into Metal and being empowered, because their work is really very good. The very good combination of melodies and aggressiveness shown on "Haunted" (that shows excellent contrasts between a heavy approach with an introspective ambience created by the guitars), "Our Lady of Sorrows" (another very good song that combines excellent melodies with aggressiveness, but the contrasts between the harsh and clean vocals are really amazing, and what a chorus), "Raising" (what lovely tender and easy melodies with charming keyboards parts, with a massive playing from bass guitar and drums), and on "Your Name" are hard to resist to. These are just to name a few for experiencing what the quartet plays, but of them are very good to hear, and easy to assimilate.

The final words of this review: to have a taste of "The Call" is really a very good way of enjoying time. But the fans can expect more of HELLFOX in the future for sure, because they have potential to do so.
