Krvcifix Invertör
Hellcrash
One of the saddest things for a writer is to hear a band with an amazing potential to make music, but that makes all the efforts drown due the use of the wrong sonority. It's a reason that can make any one of us, who write about Metal albums, bow down and cry. And what the Italian trio HELLCRASH is doing to them, as heard on "Krvcifix Invertör", is suicide. And there's nothing good on it, so don't distort the meaning of my words.
The band plays on a Speed/Black Metal form near from the same trend used by DESTRUCTION, SODOM, KREATOR and SLAYER on their early days, and of course that MOTÖRHEAD old works is a strong influence on their work. But the band knows who to do things on the best way, creating catchy nasty songs, with very good choruses, and a brutal and impacting energy that is hard to resist to. Yes, musically, although their work isn't something new, it's very good (although it's clear that they can do things in a better way in the future). But the production is truly and massive SHIT! No other word could be used!
Using such dirty and fuzzy sonority isn't something 'from the 80's' or even a proof that you're true. No, it's a kid thing that only fools do, because what bands did in the past with poor conditions was a consequence of that days, not a choice. And if you're thinking that these words are a mistake, or that I'm wrong, I invite you all to read with attention what Quorthon stated on "Blood on Ice" booklet. Read it and cry as you want. And try to hire Joel Grind next time to make something good, if you want a sonority that fits on the Old School models.
Musically, they really have potential, as stated by songs as "War Against Christ (Satan or Die)" (some excellent guitar riffs appear on it), "Krvcifix Invertör" (a Speed/Black Metal MOTÖRHEAD song), "Evil Executioner", "Satanic Heresy" (very good snarls on the vocals), and "Alcoholic Brigade" (good and simple playing on bass guitar and drums). But this writer can pick such things due the experience of dealing with such putrid sonorities on more than 36 years listening to such music, but for those who aren't used to it, it'll be hard to understand, and only the fools that believes in distorted ideas as 'true Metal' would make an apology for it.
HELLCRASH can do better than that, and it's a waste to use such sonority on "Krvcifix Invertör". It's not fair to their music, to their fans or even to themselves.
