Heavydeath - Sarcophagus In The Sky album cover

The concept of Doom-Death Metal is not new by any means; it has been around since the 90s. Bands like ANATHEMA, PARADISE LOST, MY DYING BRIDE have set the precedent, however HEAVYDEATH has a really great grasp of the concept and executes it extremely well. If you have been a fan since the beginning of HEAVYDEATH and the end of RUNEMAGICK, you can definitely appreciate this album.

Formed in 2013, HEAVYDEATH recently released their third album, "Sarcophagus In The Sky," on November 17th 2017. And get ready, it is intensely heavy! The vocals are varied in all of the tracks and they create an atmosphere of pure darkness.  The listener can actually feel the weight of these tracks with the production. It is the sound of nightmares and impending doom. I promise, you are going to love it! The Swedish trio has maintained and remained consistent with their sound. "Sarcophagus In The Sky" is similar to its predecessors, "In Circles We Die" and "Eternal Sleepwalker" but it is less death and more atmospheric doom. But that's okay. Their formula is tried and true and it works.

"The Stone Speaks At Winter" speaks volume, it is a very intense track that should be playing in the background at a sacrifice ritual. "Hunter" does not hesitate to blast you in the face. The rumbling drums will make you quiver with fear as it charges onward. "Path To Altitude" has a rumbling bass in the beginning with ambient chords and riffs. "Sarcophagus In The Sky" starts off extremely slow with just a single instrument but then it speeds up with throbbing, bearing riffs. "Autumn Life" is a wonderful blend of clashing doom and airy melodies. Overall, I do recommend this album and look forward to the next album. With their current pace of putting out albums, it shouldn't be too long.
