Call of Destiny
Hearts On Fire
Sometimes, the musical background of musicians leads them to try a side project that would fit in his particular vision. And what guides the work of HEARTS ON FIRE that comes with its first work, "Call of Destiny". The trio was formed in 2017, by Jean Funes, trying to make a band that would sound as his heroes from the 80's as DEF LEPPARD, WHITESNAKE, JOURNEY, SCORPIONS and EUROPE, so we can say that it's a Melodic Hard Rock band with some perceptible AOR influences. No, it's nothing really new at all, but into the hands of this trio, all gains a new and fresh breath of life, with charming melodies, excellent choruses and an amazing and seductive melodic insight. We can say that the band shows personality, and how their musical work sounds lovely to our minds.
Mixed and mastered by Dennis Ward (PINK CREAM 69's bassist and a known producer, and he recorded bass guitar and keyboards parts of the album as well), all sounds alive, and with the right proportions of weight, accessibility and clarity, but with that essential touch of roughness that all Rock 'n' Roll albums must have. And by the way: it sounds fresh, modern and alive, not moldy or outdated in any way. Even the quantity of songs is a feature that we commonly saw on the albums from the past: only 10 tracks. But let me tell you: in each one of the shines the band's heart and it's truly on fire! To name some as their finest shots, the tender and melodic "Hearts on Fire" (amazing chorus and great backing vocals, along with charming keyboards' parts), the lovely and accessible insight of "Holding On" (the guitars are really great, with melodic and charming riffs), the AOR/Pop taste of "Ghost of Yesterday", the melodic strength and weight of "Rainbow's End" (the excellent work from bass guitar and drums can heard easily, giving a heavy support for the song), and the modern AOR melodies shown on "Live and Learn" can fit on such classification, besides all songs are really excellent. And as a bonus track, an acoustic version for "Falling Into You" is presented, that is extremely elegant and accessible.
I truly hope that HEARTS ON FIRE will not stop on this album. They deserve to release a second album, a third one... Whatever, because the impression that "Call of Destiny" gives is the best one for us.
