Slash 'n' Roll
Heads For The Dead

HEADS FOR THE DEAD is an international Death Metal band with members from Sweden, Germany, and the Netherlands. "Slash 'n' Roll," is the group's first EP and third release overall, released by Transcending Obscurity Records on November 5, 2021.
Ah, Death 'n' Roll - a wonderful subgenre of Metal that was sadly forgotten to time along with its predecessor, Stockholm Death Metal. Thankfully, HEADS FOR THE DEAD have not forgotten about this subgenre and are actively seeking to remind listeners of its glory with this release. Jonny Petterson's buzz-saw-like guitars and chugging, plodding riffs are enough to make anyone want to bang their head; Ralf Hauber's voice combines brutal lows with a truly terrifying, high-pitched scream; and Ed Warby's drumming is tight and powerful, not unlike that of MOTÖRHEAD's Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor.
Some highlights from this track listing include "Maniac," which gives you an insight into the horror that awaits on the rest of the EP; "Halloween," which brilliantly weaves together sections of fast-paced Death Metal with the bone chilling theme music to the classic John Carpenter movie (which, I will contend, is the scariest movie of all time); and "Pet Sematary," a devastating cover of an underrated RAMONES track.
Overall, this is a great Halloween EP! HEADS FOR THE DEAD have managed to combine a nostalgia for 80s slasher flicks with a deep love for 90s Swedish Death Metal, and it works really well! I do wish there were more original tracks on this EP, but I'll let it slide since the covers are so good. Here's looking forward to the next release!
