HEADBORE is a Heavy Metal band based out of Adelaide, Australia.  Their song writing emphasis is based around song structure, with brutality while still having traces of melody.  This is the debut album and contains ten tracks.  "Enemy" is the opening track.  It's a mid tempo number, with a smattering of Death and Classic Metal.  Vocally, Adam's singing leans more towards a Hardcore sound, as they are shouted and within the same note range throughout the song.  The acoustic interlude focuses on the main melody of the song, connecting the dots back to the brutality of the verses.  There is no mistaking an IRON MAIDEN influence here to the harmony lines in the guitars.  "Everything is Nothing" sees the pace quicken, and is based on a strong riff, with double bass, and plenty of attitude.  Some nimble lead guitar work allows the gritty edge to the song to breathe.  "Let's Fight" opens exactly as it sounds...with a choppy, staccato riff and tenseness in the air, as if combat was imminent.  Closer to Thrash Metal, you can start to hear the band branching out a bit. "PIGS" carries forth the same key and low end punch, with a focus on bone crushing power.

"Sacrifice" has a nimble riff and a loud, raucous sound, while the title track "Strength in Numbers" rolls in with a real curve, opening softly and gently with some nice acoustic harmony.  As it segues into the main riff, some of the melody carries with it.  Following the second chorus, it circles back around to some of the earlier sounds in the opening. The guitar solo here is also very fitting.  This might be the best song on the album.  The beginning of "Temptress" features a running guitar riff that could very easily be on an IRON MAIDEN album. But the melody is short lived.  "Trenches" is another mid tempo number, where the focus remains on the brutal low end sound.  There are some nifty changes after the second chorus where some more variation enters.  Closing the album is a trashy sort of piece called "What We Are".  It's a pretty straightforward piece focusing on power and energy.  Overall, I think the band does a better job with Metal brutality than with melody.  There is strong musicianship here but not much unique or that made a lasting impression.  A few songs stuck out when they branched out of the style that seemed to dominate the album as a whole.  I would look forward to hearing some new material as the band matures.
