Harvest Gulgaltha - I album cover

HARVEST GULGALTHA is Black/Death Metal band from the United States, and this is a re-issue of their Demo album, containing five tracks. Despite my searching and inquiries, I was unable to obtain any bio information on the band members.

"Infinite Black" is the lead-off track. It has a dark and fuzzy resonation to it, which continues its presence when the Vocals come into play.  The wails combined with the droning, two note toggling really make this fairly straightforward Black Metal in my mind. "Manifestation of Nightmares" has a much swifter pace and an overall higher sonic quality to it. The "wall of sound" that we have come to enjoy in a lot of Black Metal is very strong here. "Release the Flesh" has a nice, brutal swing to it, like a freight engine full of the undead coming right at you. The vocals are earnest and the drums keep this track very dark and thick. As it fades away you can really hear the anguish presented. I like how they vary the pacing again when "Limbonic Soul" comes up.

There are a few more chords in the main riff and I swear I hear the infamous "Devil's Fifth" chord pattern, made famous by BLACK SABBATH. Closing the album is the song "Scepter of the Shadows of Death." This is exactly the image conjured as I take in the opening. Death is lurking, just around the corner, as you fight to find your way through the maze in the dark. It is a slow, grinding song, done mostly on the low E chord, hammered over and over again, pulverizing your senses. Overall I find the album enjoyable, but perhaps somewhat homogeneous. There are no surprises delivered here, and you will find the album presented fairly consistently for the genre. Still, it has an "overseas" quality in the composition, and so I remain optimistic to hear the band's future releases.
