If you happened to say you both love the Sleaze/Glam and Thrash Metal genres back in the 80s it could be possible you'd leave with a black eye or white robe...Labels always were both an easy way out and a pain in the ass. Sadly or not, bands like these ones from the Scandinavian region have lately (meaning 10+ years...) merged everything reminding of glitter outlaws and tore-jean whiplash muthas into one union praying for a loud dirty rock 'n' roll-thrash-punk wicked hybrid ready to steal your face. HARDCORE SUPERSTAR belong to the 'generators' clan and this is the Swedish band's eighth(?) studio release, less than a couple of years after...

..."Beg For It", which proved to be quite a surprise presenting this relentless gang in a slightly more 'mature' music-lifting that - in the end of the day - added bonus points to their portfolio. Spending time with "Split Your Lip" I can outline a similar model in this 2010 album. It's not that the band altered its sound or loudness that much - do not expect a lot if you're stuck in the early "Bad Sneakers And A Piña Colada" days, though - but for some weird reason its evident you're listening to vagabonds that have matured a little bit; and that's not - again said - a bad thing. While keeping the same party tempos HARDCORE SUPERSTAR have undergone some changes in the vocal parts where Berg's voice sounds kinda more warm and conscious while the guitar leads move towards a more minor scale melodic approach in half the songlist. The thrashin' noise has settled down a little bit, too...but just a little.

HARDCORE SUPERSTAR - the same I thought for "Beg For It" too - have grown up and this is something you cannot miss listening to. With nothing (more) to prove they can still deliver good music (a bit more commercial or stereotyped in the songlayers' approach) that surely fits the taste of younger rockers but now also have some kind of approval from older hardrockin' animals. Add the fact that hey can do some killer shows when backed by a good sound and sum it up to this: it's good this band's around, really good. For all of us.
