Psycho's R Us

GUNS N ROSES and MOTLEY CRUE may have been some of the original Glam Metal bands, but in the background there were a lot of bands that just never managed to cut it, one of those bands being HARD KNOX. Their album "Psyco's R Us" has been off the market for 20 years at this point but now it's back thanks to Divebomb Records. Theoretically there has to be a reason the band just never made it right? Bad luck maybe, or oversaturation at the time and only a few made it? Well, let's talk about it. I've made it through every song on this album a few times at this point and there are a few different sounds I've found. First off to any fan of the show Metalocalypse, I think I figured out who Dr. Rockso is making fun of, the vocalist sounds almost exactly like Rockso. For the most part throughout the album the band sounds like it's meant to be like GUNS N ROSES, but GUNS AND ROSES just has more flash specifically with the guitar playing. "Hairy Kari" is almost stereotypical Glam, talking about how you can't smell the roses because you've been snorting coke and what not.
The thing I will give this album is the three demo tracks it has at the end for "Pushin", "We Will Make It" and "She Do It For Money", even if only "Pushin" is actually on the album so it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for the other ones to be here, it's cool to hear how some songs started out a lot of the time, but that's really all of the praise that can be given to this album. I like the old Glam Bands, they had something to them between innuendos about drugs, sex and rock and roll and the look, there's something intriguing about it. HARD KNOX and "Psyco's R Us" really just gets rid of the glamour of Glam and just tried to have a shock factor I guess by talking about drugs straight and simple with nothing to hide it. Last little complaint, if you're gonna call "double time" in a song like they do at the end of "Don't Point Your Finger" then you should probably actually speed up instead of continuing to play at the same speed. I see why this album has been out of print for 20 years, time didn't do this album any favours.
