The Unending

Hanging Garden

This album is a breathtaking meditation on the beauty of sadness, where every note, every melody, and every whispered lyric feels like a fragile bloom growing from the cracks of despair. It is an album about the way sadness colors every beautiful thing in life, making it all the more precious. It is not just an expression of sorrow—it is a tribute to everything that makes it worth feeling.

From Bandcamp, “Delving deeper into the rituals, beliefs and existential concepts intrinsic to the nature of humanity and its cultures, HANGING GARDEN continues the thematic continuum of their previous full-length album, "The Garden.” Their latest work, a mini-album bearing the name "The Unending," is a four song entity, its thematic focal points those of perseverance and the occult, of returning to a harmony with nature and the remorseless forces therein.” The album has four songs.

“To Seize the Night” is first. It has a slow build of tense tones that lead to a more hardened and weighted sound, but the clean vocals remain melodic. The harsh vocals are the perfect complement to them and I get a KATATONIA vibe here. The melodies are very somber, but so damn sweet, and the entire song has a majestic quality “The Passage” has another rousing and powerful sound. The clean female vocals contrast with the harsh vocals so well, they literally dissolve in them. “Morgan’s Trail” also has a lot of power behind it, and that driving riff could lay waste to about anything. This time, the clean vocals are done with harmonies among the two singers, and the backing keyboards help to fill out the song and make it rich.

“The First Sunrise” closes the album, and it drips with melancholy tones, the kind that make your heart ache. The harsh vocals put a deeper stamp on this feeling, and it’s so damn sad, but it also fills your heart with possibilities. A sunrise symbolizes new beginnings, hope, rebirth, and the promise of a fresh start.
