From Budapest, Hungary, and formed in 2017, comes Black Metal band HAENESY. Their debut album, "Katruzsa," was released in 2018, and now they are back with "Garabontzia," which contains seven tracks. "Fate of the Depths" leads off the album. It begins with sad, clean guitar notes. What follows is absolute chaos...maddening vocal screams, thunderous drumming and continuation of those sad guitars. It slows around the half-way mark, to some lighter and more melancholy tones. It builds again, then fades out.

"Sinking Deep for a Hidden God" is a little shorter, but opens in much of the same manner as the previous track. A little bit of melody is present as well, but those screams let you know it's Black Metal. It continues in this manner until the latter half of the song, where clean guitars and acoustic strums take over. It's actually quite charming. "Path to the Weeping Hollow" also opens with clean guitars, that fade in. Drums roll in, but the guitars keep a melody line running underneath the vile screams. "Létrontás" is the shortest song on the album, opening with slow, melancholy tones, and spoken words. It begins a slow build, with strings and additional layers. It's hauntingly sad.

"Drowning of the Final Intellect" also opens with depressing clean guitars, then the drums and vocals roll in. The sound continues until just after the half-way mark, when it returns to the opening tones. Drums drop towards the end, and it finishes with just the clean guitars. "The Archives" is another shorter song, where the depressing sound is dialed up a notch. It's not until the half-way mark when we get the full on Black Metal blueprint. Then, it fades away to nothing.

"Asphyxia" closes the album, at over eight minutes in length. Cold, blowing winds open the song, with some background ambiance. Clean guitars some in slowly, then the two passages of harshness with clean guitars trade off several times. The vocals are kept to a minimum here. Overall, this was a pleasing album to listen to. The band know when and how to use melody, and although many of the song sounded the same, the melodies kept me coming back and longing for more. For their sophomore effort, they have done well here, and I will keep my eye on them for the future.
