Gus G. - Brand New Revolution album cover

GUS G. is a great guitarist well known for his work with OZZY OSBOURNE. He is considered to be one of the best guitar players in the entire metal scene today, and for a good reason. Not many know him for his other projects, such as FIREWIND (he'd given most of his time to), and also his work in MYSTIC PROPHECY, DREAM EVIL and NIGHTRAGE. "Brand New Revolution" is his second solo album, following his debut album released last year - "I Am Fire". In this album, such as in the former one; he is accompanied by the bassist Marty O Brien, who played for LITA FORD, and his FIREWIND bandmate, Johan Nunez, as drummer. Also joined are many great singers of all kinds, all there to help GUS G. create his very own masterpiece.

The album begins with an instrumental piece called "The Quest" that takes you in this amazing album with no mercy on the way. This song is a bit strange to hear without any lyrics, but all the great guitar solos sure do compensate for the lack. In the second song, "Brand New Revolution", the singer Jacob Bunton of ADLER is joined and gives this music the feeling of a lighter rock band, unlike the very Heavy-Metaled well... everything else. Bunton sticks around for the 3rd, 4th, 6th and 8th tracks, and his work with GUSs' music is magnificent, even though it's not very natural together.

In the 5th track, "What Lies Below", the singer is Elize Ryd of AMARANTHE joins with her heart-tarring female vocals. Her voice is way more Gothic and it really is amazing to hear the combination between her cute yet very deep vocals to his outstanding guitars. This union works wonderfully with some electronic influences in this song. "Behind Those Eyes" is definitely the sad song of the album and even though being fast and furies, the first guitar solo is very moving. The second one is, by far, one of the most touching guitar solos I've had the chance to listen to.

Jeff Scott Soto of TALISMAN is joined in the next song, "Gone To Stay", and sadly I have to say I didn't like that choice of song for him. His deep, heavy voice would be much more appropriate to almost any other song in this album except for this one which is more of a Hard Rock one. The return of Bunton to the following song, "One More Try", that also has the vibe of an American Rock ballad, is of course blessed.

The album takes an incredible twist in "Come Hell Or High Water" while welcoming the pitchy voice of Mates Leven, former singer of YANGWIE MALMSTEEN. The guitars supported his amazing vocals, giving this song the feeling of a great old-school Power metal song. The return of SOTO for "Generation G" is much more suitable, the vocals and music are finally combined perfectly.

All throughout this album the drums and bass did an amazing work supporting mainly the guitars, and also their interaction with all the great vocalists. The drums were doing what they were expected to, but every now and then there was a twist or a change of paste that gave the entire music more interest and layers. The lyrics of this album are great and very suitable for the genre, and the composing work done here is almost perfect. I must say, this was one of the best albums I've ever had the chance to listen to.<
