Hellish Hunt

This band is a bit of a mystery. The do have a Facebook page, but no entry on the Metal Archives, nor on Scarlet Record's website. So I was unable to find out anything about this "Folk Metal" band. Their album here has 11 songs, and "The Twilight is Coming" is a short, acoustic intro, leading to "Hellbent Horde." It comes out of the gate with a thick, sturdy structure, and even some symphonic elements. A strong level of musicianship is evident, and it reminds me a bit of KALMAH. "Ignis Fatuus" has a rousing and energetic sound, from both clean and distorted guitars. Once the familiar drum pattern gets going, it is off and running.
The title track has more positive sounds out of that galloping riff and heavy symphonic accents. So far, the band is showcasing both a sophisticated songwriting method and musical prowess in equal doses. "Army of the Graves" is a slower grind, as the title suggests. There are some very solemn tones, and it stays grounded throughout. The thick bass notes underneath the leads are very well done. "Everlost" is short blast of fire and brimstone. The pacing is super-fast, and this energy is infectious. "Facing the Kraken" is another rousing sound, and this is key to the band's success on the album. They don't let up, but also don't overwhelm you with too heavy of a sound. "Harpies of Devil" has a similar sound, and this is what the band does best. The acoustical interlude helps break things up a bit as well.
"Monsters Among" closes the album; an eight-minute opus. The song is so well structured, and every part fits together into the whole. Riffs change, and accents change here and there, but the band always has the end game in mind. Overall, I found this brand of Folk Metal to be rousing, energetic, and tight. It isn't anything necessarily groundbreaking in terms of a new style of music, but the songs are performed so well, you don't even care. It makes you feel like grabbing a sword from the smithy, and taking up arms against your enemies...and no mercy shall be shown.
