This release was quite a surprise since I was expecting something totally different from this quartet. Even though I should have expected, since they are a band that belongs to the Casket Music roster, that they would be - as I say - a classic Casket band. You know that many labels have a specific sound they specialize in mostly.
When you see four guys with tattoos and you read that they hail from Stockholm, Sweden, you expect a NWOSDM kind of music. The fact is that right from 2004, when they were formed, GROUND MOWER are producing a less brutal music and their debut album is a pretty convincing proof of what this.
Mixed and mastered at Jocke Skoog at MESHUGGAH's own Fear And Loathing Studios, Ground Mower hits the listener with its interesting mixture of Heavy Metal and Hard Rock. Heavy guitars and a groovy as hell rhythm section are the best things a singer like Arnar could have to lay his vocal lines on, and he is a hell of a good singer! There are times this guy will probably remind you of Chris Cornell's aggressive moments. One more positive thing about this album is that it won't really make you get tired or something, since its duration is approximately 34 minutes. I can say that there were times I gladly pressed the repeat button.
So, if you are looking for some SOUNDGARDEN meets GODSMACK meets SYSTEMATIC music, I guess Ground Mower will satisfy your needs. Far from being characterized as a great album, but a really good album for fans of this genre.
