Till Förruttnelsen

Grand Harvest

This was a promising two-song teaser for the upcoming album. If these two songs have that much power, imagine what the rest of the album can deliver. The interesting thing about “the futility of mankind’s existence” is a dichotomy of the fact that among the living on this planet, we think of ourselves almost as Gods of our own will and destiny. We start wars, wage battles against groups of people, and demonize our enemies with our self-righteousness. But in the end, none of that matters, because once we are lowered into the ground, we all have the same fate.

From Bandcamp, “The band took a permanent shape as GRAND HARVEST in 2017. The musical style could be described as Blackened Death/Doom Metal. The lyrical themes reflect a deep contempt for, and the utter futility of mankind's existence. The release furthers the band's development into blackened soundscapes and epic, heavy melancholy with a strong attention to the lyrics. This EP is a heartfelt project which musically point out the direction of the band's coming full-length album.”

The album has but two songs, and “Till Förruttnelsen” is first. It enters slowly, with clean guitars, and a good deal of despondence. A distorted guitar builds triumphantly, with harsh vocals, and heavy, thudding bass and drums. This song is about he who wields the power. Some clean vocals mix in, but the ardent side of the song will not give in. The vocals grow steadily darker and stronger until the let up towards the end. It’s almost as if he who wields the power is giving you a reprieve. “Consummatum Est (Det är fullkomnat)” is the second and final song on the album. It begins with another slow and commanding pace, and the vocals are horridly filthy. It begins to march, with the heavy boots of underworld creatures lining up for war.

Overall, this was a promising two-song teaser for the upcoming album. If these two songs have that much power, imagine what the rest of the album can deliver. The interesting thing about “the futility of mankind’s existence” is a dichotomy of the fact that among the living on this planet, we think of ourselves almost as Gods of our own will and destiny. But in the end, none of that matters, because once we are lowered into the ground, we all have the same fate.
