Graham Bonnet Band - Day Out In Nowhere album cover

Let me start off with something that needs to be said if you count yourself to be a fan of Melodic Rock. It is this: if you have never heard of GRAHAM BONNET, you have been living under a rock since the sixties of the last century. That is when he had his first hit as the singer of THE MARBLES, with the song "Only One Woman". Since then he has fronted bands like RITCHIE BLACKMORE'S RAINBOW, MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP, IMPELLITERI and ALCATRAZZ, where he worked with Yngwie Malmsteen and Steve Vai. So, looking at the names mentioned you'll have to admit that he's also very well used to playing with outstanding guitar players as well.

And that's something he is continuing even now, on his solo albums. At 74 years of age, this man doesn't have to prove anything to anyone, and still, he's capable of delivering a bloody impressive album with "Day Out In Nowhere". You will hear all his former influences passing by in his form of Melodic Rock/ Metal. And what's even more remarkable is that even though he's had such a great career, he's not being complacent and trying to rehash old songs. No, he puts together very coherent songs with a definite contemporary touch, whilst always having that bit of old-time recognition. I don't know how he achieves this, but I really do applaud him for his efforts.

Yes, he is using a lot of guest players on "Day Out In Nowhere", but hey, wouldn't you be pleased as punch if a guy with the stature of Graham Bonnet was asking you to w2ork with him on his music? Especially when you realise that the songs he has you to choose from are of a very hight standard. I believe that is called a no brainer. So, I for one am not surprised by the long list of extra instrumentalists. And they have all done the music proud. Everyone fits like the proverbial glove and gives the music just that little bit extra it deserves.

Don't get me wrong, the core band themselves are already doing a cracking job, but it's always nice to find just that little extra bit of quality to elevate the music even more. And that is exactly what has happened on "Day Out In Nowhere". So, I'll repeat what I said in the start: if you, as a Melodic Rock lover, don't know Graham Bonnet, you have been living under a rock. So, creep out form underneath it and thoroughly enjoy this album. I certainly have, many times already. Before I stop writing, I have to mention "The Sky Is Alive", as it is an amalgamation of the styles of RAINBOW and MSG, and therefore the most impressive song on the album for me.
