Life In Black and White
Gone Savage
Even when paradigms are changed, there are bands that refuse to give up, and keep things up and enduring hardships. And during the age when Grunge Rock and Alternative Rock genres were in evidence, some Glam Metal and Hard Rock acts endured, survived into underground, and now are here. One of them is the Winchester (UK) quartet GONE SAVAGE, back with “Life in Black and White”, their latest release.
The album had the sound engineering by Ian (the band’s bassist). With mixing and production signed by David Radahd-Jones at Red City Recordings, Manchester (UK), and mastering of Pete Maher at Topfloor Productions Ltd, London. All to give the band a classic sonority, but defined and with modern updates (earned from modern recording technologies). And as guests to help on the guitars, here are Sam Millar, Grant Mallison and James Marsh.
The band shows a recollection of influences, from Heavy Metal to Rock ‘n’ Roll, but always keeping the feet on Hard Rock. And as a depiction of a band that knows how to evolve, they use a modern and defined outfit for their songs, but always respecting the classic elements from the genre: strong and catchy melodies, catchy choruses and all. But the weight presented can astonish many hearers (as heard on “Irresistible”). To short things: the album is truly very good to be heard and enjoyed as it deserves.
The long-time fans of the band will have nothing to complain about “Life in Black and White”, and the work shown on tracks as “Icon of Today” (fine and energetic guitar riffs and arrangements that creates a link between the hooks of the 80s and the present defined musical weight), “Permanent State of Change” (this one brings elements from 70s Hard Rock into the mix, with strong bass guitar and drums playing), “Irresistible” (even with the melodic vocation of the band, it bears and aggressive and impacting weight), “Louder Than the Sun” (another fine combination between weight and melodies, with very good vocals and chorus), “Love Caught Me Out” (a frantic and catching song), “Redemption Song” (a stripped-off and bitter Hard Rock song with an 80s energetic outfit) and “Life in Black and White” will earn the band many new fans for sure.
“Life in Black and White” depicts a band that has much to offer, even after all these years. And give some applause to GONE SAVAGE, because the band deserves it!
