GODLESS NORTH is a Black Metal band based out of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Formed in 1996, Othalaz assumed all songwriting duties in 2011, releasing "Wampyric Coffinspirit" in 2019. As it turns out, "Dark Rites of the Mystic Order" is a re-issue of their original 1998 Demo.

"Intro" leads off the album. It's a minute of steady, scary drumming and horns, like a cry to battle, reminding me of Conan the Barbarian. It quickly fades out. "Northern Hordes" has awful production-over use of treble and the entire thing sounds like it was recorded in a tin can. The wall of guitars, bass and drums combine with vocal shrieks but doesn't offer much different than the thousands of other Black Metal bands out there, trying to stay true to the FWOBM roots.

"Wolf's Kin" is more of the same. Cymbals crash all around you as the thick impenetrable wall of guitars rages. The drums roll on like a steam train while the vocals remain these vile shrieks of evil. "Everlasting Winter Winds" is just like the previous tracks. After three intense minutes of what sounded like complete noise, it ended abruptly. "Warmoon (Outro)" opens with a bit more of a discernable riff, but then it is drowned out by the noise of what comes next...raging flames of Black Metal, impossible to distinguish. It fades out quickly at the end.

"Dunkelheit" is the BURZUM cover on the album. It's over seven-minutes in length, and the first song that doesn't sound like a bee hive buzzing in your ears. At least it has a riff that you can easily follow, but it is not very complex. I've never listened to BURZUM before, so I really have no basis for comparison. This is old school, FWOBM stuff, with horrible production, and endless rage from the vocals and instruments. I would not waste my time on it, honestly, unless you are an old school Black Metal traditionalist.
