Goddess of Fate - The Orchid Gardner album cover

GODDESS OF FATE is a Progressive Metal band based out of the country of Indonesia. Their debut full-length was titled "Spiral Orchird Pt. 1" and was released in 2018. Now they are back with "The Orchid Gardner" which contains just two tracks; one with vocals and the same track without. It opens with lead guitar notes and heavy, rhythmic strikes, instantly reminding me of DREAM THEATER. It's a seven-and-a-half minute track. Once it gets going, time changes are intermingled into the positive sounding song. Suddenly it slows to a distant voice over slow, clean guitars. A harsh vocal scream kicks off the song back to its original sound. Somehow I expected clean vocals here, but the harsh ones are not bad.

Some clean vocals come into play for just a bit, providing an alternating pattern for the vocals. Lead guitars usher in a slightly different sound, with some heavy accents and some dexterous shifting. That bass guitar passage is really great-too often the bass guitar is an afterthought for many bands. That opening sound returns at the end to cap off the song. Overall, it's not bad for what I'm sure is an underfunded effort from Indonesia. The band has the right idea, and all the pieces in place for a strong effort here. I bet they would sell their souls for some free studio time to really beef up their sound. There is just a slight element of amateurism here that comes through, to no fault of the band.
