God Enslavement - Consuming The Divine album cover

GOD ENSLAVEMENT is a new project of pure Death Grind Metal, which joins together six incredible musicians coming from several underground bands such as PIG DESTROYER, DYING FETUS, and MALADIE.

"Consuming The Divine" was released on May 20th 2016, produced at 16th Cellar Studio by Stefano Morabito, is the band's debut album, and Marco Hasmann created the artwork.

While all in all the sound is satisfactory, the mixing could have been slightly superior to what it is. The drums and vocals are very prominent in the recording, leaving behind the guitars that, at times, seem only a background noise.

Drum patterns and speed of beats are simply brutally impressive; Adam Jarvis doesn't fault a single hit and delivers us a raging performance throughout the album. However, unfortunately the drum production lacks something and could be a bit better. At times, it feels completely detached from the rest of the instruments, like if it was recorded in a different environment.

The album starts with an atmospheric intro, "Sine Nomine Sum", which makes you pondering what is going to happen, for its short minute of length. And this is the only moment of peace that we find throughout "Consuming The Divine".

Incessant, irresistible, and restless we are thrown into a grinding dry landscape of maddening metallic guitars, and unstoppable drum rolls, cadenced snare hits, and strikingly fast kicks. "Belial Within" feels a bit messy to me, but has interesting breakdowns and low growls that I think are very enjoyable. The title track, "Consuming The Divine", is one of my favourites of the album, as the vocals involve you from the very beginning of the track and accompany perfectly the drum pattern of the song. The lyrics are quite prominently about religion, power, and the human condition. "Insatiable Hunger", which is just a spitting of violence, suddenly surprises us and gives us a beautiful long solo, accompanied again by interesting drum rhythms.

"Consuming The Divine" is a great debut album and it just gets better at every listen. It is pure Death Grind Metal; old school, no fuss. It will leave you gasping and it will hit you full force in the gut, making you want more.<
