GOATFATHER is a Stoner Metal band from Lyon, France. "Monster Truck" is the group's second full-length album, released by Argonauta Records on September 17, 2021.

This group combines the heavy psychedelic sounds of HIGH ON FIRE and THE SWORD with the Southern stomp of bands like DOWN and CORROSION OF CONFORMITY. Tracks like "Blood of My Brother" and "Convoy" demonstrate this handily; the fuzzed-out riffs and backwoods imagery are the telltale signs of a fantastic Stoner band. One thing that really stands out about GOATFATHER, though, is Yann "Olaf" Sambuis's vocal performance. Sambuis demonstrates a lot more versatility than most Stoner Metal singers, combining a gruff yet brilliant singing voice with a truly devastating scream. Perhaps he practiced his imitation of singers like Kyle Thomas or Phil Anselmo at a younger age, because his voice is outstanding.

Of course, the rest of the band is nothing to sneeze at either. Sambuis and Gregory Perret make an excellent guitar duo, trading riffs and solos like there's no tomorrow and hitting the 12th fret of the low E-string harder than Tony Iommi. Quentin Jusforgues's bass burbles and belches like your drunk uncle at Thanksgiving, providing an undercurrent of low-end that is thoroughly satisfying. And finally, Raphaël Jaudon's drumming is simple yet very powerful, borrowing moves from some of my favorite drummers like Jimmy Bower and Reed Mullin.

Other highlights from this album include "Punish the Punisher," which features Sambuis's most brutal vocal performance on the entire record; "In Your Face," a mid-paced rocker that is sure to get the blood pumping; and "Shelter," a 12-minute epic that is perfect for lighting up a joint to and letting the mind float away.

Overall, this is an excellent album! GOATFATHER have managed to make me feel stoned without even smoking anything. Here's hoping that the next album does the same thing!
