GHOST FLOWER is just starting their journey into the land of Rock music. Born in Israel, these guys are influenced by artists such as TOOL, DEFTONES, OPETH, AGALLOCH, EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY, and many more. Their style is an eclectic mix of genres. Their hope is to break new grounds in Rock music blending soft Post Rock with Progressive Metal. GHOST FLOWER released the EP "In Venter - The Keoss Sessions" in January of 2015. The EP comes in with four tracks and about 20 minutes of listening time.
Track one "A Waltz For Rachel" is the epitome of Progressive Metal meets an Old New Wave Rock. This five-minute beauty is an instrumental that proves to show the best musicianship. The groovy undertone is brilliantly executed. The melodious sound is intricately layered with calmness of the drums and bass. "A Waltz For Rachel" is beautifully done.
"A Waltz_Reprise", track two, is effortlessly transitioned into with an acoustic intro and a softly sung hymn. Again showing off the group's complex art form in a mostly instrumental track. However, this one is a bit harder than the previous Waltz track. This track is incredible and anyone who likes a sophisticated Progressive sound find this track has many layers to it.
Track three is where we get a better taste of the vocals. "City of Glass" reminds me a bit of "The Pot" by TOOL and "Sex Tape" from DEFTONES. The mixture of the two is impressive, but then there are the elements that make the track unique. The creativeness that come through on this track is incredible and frankly prefect.
The final track, "The Solipsist - Part 1" is my favorite on the EP. It has all the small details I love in a Progressive Metal track. It starts off low with some ambient sound that quietly moves toward a more energetic atmosphere. I absolutely love everything about this one. It's a refreshing take on Rock and Metal.
I love that GHOST FLOWER didn't feel the need to harden up the music making the sounds unique, creative, and sophisticated. New to the music scene or not, these guys have got it going on. Check out their stuff. It not only deserves it, but it needs it. Perfect sound so far: I can't wait to hear what the future has in store.
