Gévaudan - Iter album cover

GÉVAUDAN is a Doom Metal band from the UK and these guys were nominated as one of the best bands of the style in their country by Terrorizer Magazine. They just released their newest album titled "Iter" on October 4th and that's what we are going to talk about.

The opening song of the album is "Dawntreader" and its kind of a progressive song as it starts out with clean electric guitar sounds, followed by some guitar arrangements in the background and then the deep vocals comes in, creating the perfect ambiance for this doomy mood. The highlight of the song goes to the chorus, where the vocals could pass a desperate and misery kind of feeling as the guitar riffs hits up with distortion and the heavy bass and drums adds punch to the song. There are also some groovy guitar riffs that will make you bang your head.

"Maelstrom" is a song that starts out with a guitar arrangement and a bass in the background that reminded me of PORCUPINE TREE. It's a heavier song from the previous one, and the guitar work here is pretty cool. The vocals, heavy guitar doomy riffs and bass and drums fits perfectly the song, but the highlight goes to the guitar work and the solo that helped creating a different mood. The next song is "The Great Heathen Army" and it starts out with some cool drums followed by heavy guitar riffs that reminded me of BLACK SABBATH. The vocals are really good and matched the instruments perfectly. I loved how these guys could create different kind of vibes on this song, utilizing different guitar riffs and also bass and drums. It's good to see that the vocals really passed the feelings of the story that is being told by this song.

"Saints Of Blood" starts with cool and calm guitar riffs and arrangements that creates a nice ambiance. I loved how the song is progressive as the instruments are added slowly and it makes you want to listen to the whole stuff. The bass lines are really good here and the vocal melodies of the stanza as well. You will bang your head and probably get lost on your mind. This song has cool and different parts and it has one surprise: low guttural vocals comes in, giving the song a whole new atmosphere. It's probably one of the coolest songs on the whole album and the one that has more varieties on it.

The last song on the album is "Duskwalker" and it starts out with clean guitar sounds and their deep vocals. The ambiance here is a little bit darker and it even reminded me of some Depressive Suicidal Black Metal bands. It's a progressive song and the instruments are added slowly. I liked how they used the guitar on this one, it feels like the guitar is singing alongside the vocals. They weren't kidding on this song, as it has some raw Black Metal vocals that matched perfectly the ambiance and wow, you are going to love it.

GÉVAUDAN did an amazing job here. They have managed to create a great album with a lot of varieties in the songs as they added different vibes to each of them. It's not a boring album, even though the songs are long, you won't feel anxious. The instruments were really well executed and the production is really tight. They have a lot more to show and they released one of the best Doom Metal albums that I have ever listened to.
