GEORGE LYNCH is a legendary guitarist from the United States. Having played in numerous bands, including this, his eponymous band, and collaborated with other legends, he is one of the most recognized players for over four decades. His Wikipedia page lists over 50 credited records he's performed on. "Seamless," his 13^th solo record, was released via Rat Pak Records on August 21, 2021.

There are 12 tracks of varying lengths on this record. All are instrumental and guitar heavy, but they do not ignore the rhythm section. While George is undoubtedly the star of the show on this, Jimmy and Eric play their parts, and play them well. This is a well-rounded album, full of everything from heavy shredding to melodic riffs and eloquent passages.

The layering of the fills and solos over the riffs is present right from the start. "Quiver" opens with a heavy riff and pounding rhythm. The lighter passages accentuate the heaviness of the lower end. It's no wonder George's nickname is Mr. Scary. His talent is amazing and really quite incomparable (and then there is the namesake song).

"Cola" has a bit of funk in it, some groove, and a lot of fun. The main riff is catchy and has a great rhythm. The fills over the riff are playful. "Tj69" and "Death by A Thousand Licks" have similar patterns, lots of intricate work over killer riffs. "Death" is more of the 80s guitar god sound, reminiscent of Eric Johnson and Joe Satriani. There is also some serious shredding in this song.

Moving on, we get "Ithink." At seven minutes, this is the longest song on the record, beating out "Octavia" by 32 seconds. The rhythm, and rhythm section, really rock on "Ithink," just crushing and grooving. "Octavia" has an almost ballad-like intro. George Lynch can evoke emotions without a single word.

"Sharks With Laser Beams" is quirky. It's a bit all over the place, but not incoherent. There is a theme to everything here. The songs are well written and work together as single songs and as a whole record. And for his next trick, he unleashes "Supersonic Hypnotic Groove Thing." Shifting back and forth from heavy to groovy, this song covers a range of styles and tones as few can do, and even fewer can do this well.

One of the more emotional songs on the record is "Falling Apart." There is a bit of "Alone Again" in the song, harkening back to the early DOKKEN days. This is the song that really this the nostalgia button for me, and I am grateful for it. Back to groovy, "Blue Light Effect" has more of the funk feel to the riff, and the filler work over the riff is excellent. I love the bass runs in the middle section as well. There is a lot of fun being had by the musicians on this track.

Wrapping the record are "House of Eternal Return" and "The Weight." "House Of Eternal Return" has a bit of darkness in it, but not dreary darkness. This is just contemplating it, not dwelling in it. "The Weight" is a small bit bluesy, adding yet another element to the disc.

If you haven't noticed. George Lynch can do and play just about anything. His sound, tone and style are very recognizable. Whether it's a guest solo in a LIZZY BORDEN song, working with Ray Luzier (KORN) and Dug Pinnick (KING'S X) in KXM or his primary bands (DOKKEN, LYNCH MOB, GEORGE LYNCH), you just know it's him. Face it, George Lynch is iconic. As a musician, a writer, and a designer of guitars, he is a force to be reckoned with.

No matter what he does, he does it well. In a career spanning over forty years, George Lynch has, and continues, to be one of the best in the business. This record has everything a Lynch fan could want. It has groove, funk, shredding and melodic work on it. His phrasing is eloquent, his tone spot on. This is one of the top instrumental albums of the year.
