FUGLE is a one man band consisting of Danish musician, Frederick Uglebjerg. His dark instrumental metal is a showcase of this man's talent, but that seems to be all it is.
Uglebjerg definitely has a lot of song writing talent that is shown in songs like 'Fem' which is an acoustic wonder and 'Tre' which is a shady blend of distorted guitar. There's a lot of experimentation with different instruments which often makes you forget that Fugle is just a one man model. But this musical project is not something I can see lasting for a very long time for a few reasons.
Firstly, the album seems to be very self absorbed in terms of playing style only really sticking to the Stoner Metal sound. While Uglebjerg can right some absolutely brilliant riffs, there just isn't enough diversity of sound to keep the listener interested for a long period of time which is particularly important for instrumental albums. The novelty of the sound wears off around half way through the record especially when you get to 'Seks' whose machine gun riffs are very similar to an earlier song Tre. It feels like he lost a lot of inspiration because he followed similar musical patterns throughout the entire thing.
Unless Uglebjerg really changes his sound or adds vocals, Fugle really just seems like a one off thing that won't really go anywhere because it's lost in it's pretentiousness. Fugle hasn't created a bad album by any means. It's definitely got some good, intelligent points but it's incredibly repetitive which is a shame because it had such a solid start. You can tell in some parts that the album was made entirely on digital computers.
