So Shall It Be

Freakshow

These four veterans of North American Glam Metal and US Metal scene are up to something VERY GOOD!
February 1, 2024

Old stallions refuse to be tamed by time and money, and things are always interesting when some veterans enter the ring, especially when we are dealing with musicians that saw the rise of Glam Metal and US Metal scene back in the early days of the 80s, when things we hot on USA. And FEAKSHOW, a quartet that hails from Los Angeles (CA) is here to remind the fans how things were (and still are) with their third album, “So Shall It Be”. To have an idea of what the band is up to with music, its members have experience with names as METAL CHURCH, IMPELLITTERI, W.A.S.P., BLACKFOOT, LITA FORD, HEAR ‘N AID, BADLANDS, KING KOBRA, QUIET RIOT, RATT, TRIXIE, STEELER, WARLORD and others on the shoulders.

It means that they know what they’re doing, and it’s a combination of elements between Glam Metal and US Heavy Metal, or in other words, their musical work is filled with excellent catching melodies, a great care on the arrangements and a massive dose of weight sometimes (as hear on the bitter “You Shine”). Yes, it’s really great to hear such music today, still fresh and wild as always! Markus Allen Christopher (the band's guitarist/vocalist) and Andrew Deguara produced the album (with Andrew taking care of the mixing and mastering), having Ryan McKay and Tom Frost as sound engineers. The result is something heavy and organic as in the past, but defined (a good reference would be albums as “Shout at the Devil” and “Metal Health”), with everything on their due places.

Again: it’s easy to hear that the quartet works on a way that combines elements of Glam Metal of the 80s and US Metal, and it’s really great to hear to their music, especially on moments as “Get It Ready” and “Wendi” (both showing a fine mix between the past and the present, with excellent melodies and weighty guitar riffs entangling on the song, and what a great chorus), “You Shine” (melodies and bitterness and mixed, and influences from dirty Hard Rock from acts as AC/DC arises), “So Shall It Be” (another moment filled with nasty Hard Rock touches and a fine dose of melodies, with fine vocals in a way similar to Vince Neil), “Tell Me You Love Me” (a clear Glam Metal song with a dose of musical accessibility in a vein similar to KISS in the band’s 80s age, with a massive and heavy work on bass guitar and drums), “Full-on Shred” (an instrumental song filled with excellent work on the guitars, but with bonecrushing weight on bass guitar and drums as well), “It Hurts Me” (the famous accessible song for playing on radios, with catching melodies and filled with a clear commercial appeal) and “Lovin You, Lovin Me”. This album is a privilege for those that love the musical tendencies of the 80s, but for those who are into Metal today as well.

“So Shall It Be” is a very good album, and FREAKSHOW is a great surprise, indeed.
