I never really understood why these Black Metal dudes always dressed up for a funeral everyday and painted their faces like they were huge Halloween fans. Come on guys, how can the world take you seriously enough when you dress up the same way people dress up for the least serious holiday of the year? Some of you are exceptional musicians, so you must straighten up your acts.
Fine example of all this is Framferd that recently sent me a promo CD including two songs from their forthcoming album. The band was formed back in 2003 and so far they have also recorded a Demo, they have also played several live shows. Someone must help them with their biography because it seems like it was written by a ten year old.
So, here I am checking out the package and the photos and I think damn, these guys look quite evil and satanic; this must be really good. Well, at least that was the thought that would have crossed my mind if I was nine years old. So, I pick up my stainless steel shovel and wear my Grave Digger t-shirt...
Unfortunately for me, on a musical level this band has no similarities to all the other aspects. Framferd deliver this symphonic / technical Black Metal that owes A LOT to bands like Dimmu Borgir. Ok, I am not a sucker for this either. However everything is in place. The two compositions are really rich in riffs, harmonies, keyboard fills, drum changes, acoustic parts etc. Quite lengthy also but they manage to keep the interest of the listener on a very high level. The production is also as bombastic as a production should be in order to carry the weight of such a multi-layered music.
In conclusion, I am pretty sure that Framferd will deliver an excellent album in their genre. If only they could look more serious...
