The longstanding Spanish band is back with another opus called ''Les Irreals Visions''. Finally a new album after three years, from the beloved ''Those Horror Withers'' album we got in 2014. They have managed pretty much on equaling the quality of that very album. They have been out there in the Metal scene in Spain for the last 20 years and they have really evolved into a well-oiled machine to say the least. Fiar is in fine form even though I never really enjoyed his clean singing especially on that last album. He has decent clean vocals skills and the accent is kinda hard to adjust yourself but his harsh vocals are some of the best out there. I would stick to harsh vocals but I understand the conflicting styles and they mesh well in FOSCOR. He alternates between both singing styles and he does a pretty good job on capturing the listener's attention.
You can really perceive all instruments, hell we actually hear the Bass on this album. Something missing on so many production ever since the early 90's pretty much (*cough* ''And Justice for All...'' *cough*). Excellent production, nothing over complicated, just enough to make a great record. There is some programming on this album but you don't really notice it at all and it's pretty much better that way nowadays. I think they released their previous album the same year as the awesome ''In Times'' album by ENSLAVED. Well I thought this band was very reminiscent of the path chosen by ENSLAVED throughout the last decade. I mean ENSLAVED evolved from a very Black Metal-esque outfit to a much more Darker Progressive Metal band. The same can be said for FOSCOR. In their last two albums, they pretty much ditched the Black Metal elements to create this atmosphere, this darker mood and slower songs. So I felt it was not uncommon to link both bands together. I do believe that FOSCOR are much like Spain's version of ENSLAVED. That's one hell of a compliment, ENSLAVED are one of the best Metal bands period, no matter what the style they chose to do. FOSCOR even covered the awesome ''Return to Yggdrasil'' a number of years ago, a staple of their Norwegian counterparts!
Not withstanding, they do a hell of a job, I wasn't too keen on the clean vocals but I got used to them nonetheless. An awesome album by these longstanding veterans from Spain!
