Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina based foursome, FORENSIC CLINIC, have released their debut full-length album called "Lovelorn". After their debut EP "Robe of Immortality" and a lot of line-up changes and other difficulties, they have finally managed to unleash their first full-length accomplishment upon the world this very year.

They themselves call the genre they play Progressive Death Metal. From the start on it is pretty clear why. In the first two songs, "Descent" and "The Railway" you definitely already hear Progressive Metal and Death Metal elements. The guitar riffs and the clean voice of singer Goran Dzidic show the more Progressive side of the band's playing. The drums and the screaming voice resemble more the Death Metal style. They don't shy away from going silent and soft either. The middle part of "The Railway" is even acoustic.

In the third song, called "Anna's Thoughts", you can even hear some Trash Metal influences. I can hear a little bit of the best of SLAYER for that matter. However, the band doesn't seem to have any problems at all in mixing all these styles and to make a great and complete sounding whole of all these parts. They even play Trash, Death and acoustic in one and the same song in "Anna's Thoughts" and it still sounds like it is supposed to be like that. It's all very well crafted and thought out.

"Atoned" then functions as a kind of easy intermezzo, that's almost all acoustic, with even a great sounding acoustic guitar solo. With "Immemorial" they go back to their Death Metal roots, with more aggressiveness in the voice and guitars. Still you can hear some Trash Metal influences, especially in the guitar solos. "Involution" then sounds really Trashy in the beginning, but when the screams and drums come in, it's back to all hail the dead, until they mix in an acoustic part again, which really fits in. Incredible, I don't know how they do it.

With "Leaves of The Linden Tree" and especially "All Hail The Wise" they finish this strong debut album the way they started it, heavily and with speed. All in all, FORENSIC CLINIC displays a great ability to mix styles and make it all their own sound. It's clear that the musicians are all very capable, that they have their own ideas and they have no problems with carrying them out. A great album and a band to be heard of.<
